A shopper asked: Do I need any skincare moisturizer before I apply YSL youth liberator serum foundation ? Jan 21, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Margaret L: You will benefit from a moisturizer that is fully absorbed prior to application of this foundation. Though this foundation has anti-aging properties, the proper base of skincare products will provide you with the best results. Regardless of how hydrating a foundation claims to be, dry skin will be highlighted with an application of color, hence the importance of hydrated skin prior to application. Jan 21, 2015
Reply to Margaret Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Alyssha H: This foundation is really moisturizing so if you have normal skin then you probably don't need a moisturizer under it. I have dry skin so I have to wear moisturizer or my skin will soak up any foundation I wear like a sponge. However, if you skip the moisturizer maybe use a toner first to prep your skin before applying. This is one of my favorites! Jan 21, 2015
Reply to Alyssha Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Martina L: You could use a bit if your skin is really dehydrated and wait like 2 minutes for it to sink in before u put this YSL serum foundation on. This foundation itself is quite hydrating so it glide on to your skin. Hope that helps! Feb 28, 2015
Reply to Martina Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Martha S: The foundation is very creamy, so if your skin is oily you may not need much of a moisturizer. However, a light water-based moisturizer will protect your skin and may allow for a smoother application of the foundation. Jan 22, 2015
Reply to Martha Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Martina L: It would definitely sit better on your face. A thick moisturizer underneath this might not be the best idea since this foundation is hydrating serum. Jan 22, 2015

A shopper asked: I have olive skin, what shade of you liberator is best? Jan 12, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
JONATHAN C: You could use B30, B40, or BD50 depending on how dark you. Those shade have the most yellow in them in the range. B30 is good for light skin with yellow undertones. B40 is darker and has more neutral tones to it (but still more yellow than the other shades). BD50 seems like the most olive toned shade but it is best for medium skin. If you are lighter you may want to mix B30 and BD50. Hope this helps. Jan 12, 2014

Caylin: Hi! I have very fair olive skin, too!! I always thought I was the only one, because NOBODY makes foundations for us in our perfect color. Finally, I went for the Le Teint Touche Eclat in the shade B(eige) 10. It is the only perfect color match I have found, and I've tried them all!! I hope that helps; I'm know Liberator comes in B10 also :) Jan 22, 2015

A shopper asked: I am wondering about shade selection. I wear 3.25 Cool Beige in Bobbi Brown foundation and 4.5 in Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. Any ideas of what shade would be best suited for me? Thanks! Dec 16, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Sarah B: I used my sephora color match to figure out my shade. My sephora shade is 4Y06, and beige 40 is 3Y06, so technically one shade not yellow enough, but when I received the foundation, it matches very well.
Your Bobbi Brown shade correlates to 2Y04. Beige 30 is 5Y05, so a little more yellow and one shade too dark. Sephora doesn't carry beige 20, so I'm not sure the exact number, but they have beige rose, a more pink undertone, is 1R03. I'm not sure what Y beige 20 will be as it doesn't correlate as directly as the shade does, but the darkness should be 03. So if your Bobbi brown leans too light I would go with beige 30, or leans toward too dark, I would go with beige 20.
Hope this helps!

Vicki S: The shade finder was very helpful. I chose the color I did because my complexion most matched the "fair to light with rosy tan beige undertones". Cool tones are best for me as well. I would, however, consider my skin tone to be fair to medium. Because of that, I did choose to go with the darker shade being Beige Rose 50. Love, love, love this product! The color choice was perfect for me. I plan on getting on the auto shipment so that I am never without. Good luck! :) Dec 16, 2013

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
JONATHAN C: I have shades 30 and 40 for the Youth Liberator Foundation and there is a pretty considerable jump between the two shades. If you are more pink/neutral toned then perhaps BR40 would suit you. It's slightly lighter than B40. If you're more yellow toned then I would suggest perhaps mixing B30 and B40 because B30 is a lot more yellow and a lot lighter than B40. Dec 11, 2013

A shopper asked: Its it good for oily skin? Jan 2, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Martina L: It is AMAZING on oily skin. I personally have very oily skin and this is by far my favorite foundation. Obviously no foundation will ever stay flawless all day for very oily skin. However, I do have to say that after a few hours the "wear" of this foundation is quite beautiful anyway. It doesn't slide off like other foundations (given that you applied a primer and/or a setting powder or spray) and it just leaves you with a slight glow as the day goes by. It is in fact full coverage but it is not heavy like Mac Studio Fix, and I think I can even say that it feels lighter than the Laura Mercier silk foundation. Give it a go! Jan 8, 2014
Reply to Martina Good answer? Yes (2) No (0)
Amanda C: I think this foundation is better for people with normal to oily skin because I found it to cling onto the dry patches of my cheeks, on my combination skin. Although it is labeled as hydrating, I think it is better suited to those without dryness as it tends to emphasize dry skin. Jan 2, 2014

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Pauline T: I wear B30 for chanel and it matches me perfectly. I tried B30 with YSL and I find that's its a shade too light so I just ordered the B40 to try (I think it will probably be the best). Based on this I would try the next shade down from B40 maybe B50. Worse case scenario you use some tinted powder to set it. :) Oct 17, 2013

Debbie G asked: I'm not sure what color to choose - Currently I use Dior Forever in 021 Linen. I can't tell from the shade swatches - if I'd use Beige 20, Beige Rose 20 or Beige 30? Please help! Sep 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Pamela H: HI Debbie,
I am not sure about Dior Forever in that shade, 021 Linen, because I haven't used that specific foundation, myself, but it sounds like it may be B20, since Linen is usually very fair towards the yellow/olive side. I bought B20, but should have bought B30, since I am a little darker/warmer than what I expect "Linen" to look like.

I just mix it with the other Dior foundation I have "Eclat Touche B30" and it's perfect!

Saks, Nordstroms that carry both products:) your current one-Channel and the one you wish to buy Youth Liberator Foundation from YSL- Have them color match you on the phone or in person. The undertones may be different. I have not tried all colors in both lines; I don't know exactly. Hope this helps.

Lisa J: I have used the Le Teint Touché foundation for some time and thought I would try the youth liberator serum foundation. I like that the shades are the same and I didn't have to try to figure out a shade all over again. I am 49 and still battling oily skin but also wrinkles at the same time. I love the touché and it was my favorite foundation. But the youth liberator is moisturizing but less shine later in the day. It also feels lighter but covers better somehow. Amazing stuff. deborah k: I also used to wear hourglass illusion in light beige. I bought the BD50 and love the color. It's a tad darker than my natural skin tone, but it gives me a little boost. May 15, 2014

Marianne D asked: I usually wear foundations in a porcelain color. I have fair skin, blue eyes, salt and pepper hair color. I tend to use peach color blush and brown eye shadows to make my eyes pop. I went to the Sephora store today and they stated that in YSL colors I would be Beige30. I asked to go a shade or two lighter. I could not tell the difference between Beige 20 and Beige 10. I have been evaluated as fair with yellow undertones, which is really not a choice when using the shade finder. Can anyone advise if I should go Beige 20 or 10? Apr 21, 2014

Keiko Y: Hello,
I am also very fair (in any brand, I use the lightest color in foundations), and for Youth Liberator Foundation and Touche Eclat foundation, I use a mixture of B10 and BR20 (because BR10 isn't available, although that would be my ideal shade--only Nordstrom has it, I recently discovered).
I am slightly on the pinky undertone side, so I use slightly heavier BR20 color than B10. The B range is yellower than BR. You mentioned that you have yellow undertone, so I'd say go for B10 or B20, depending on the depth of shade your skin is. But that's just a guess because I haven't seen your skin in person, but hopefully this provides some reference point.

Martina L: I would go for B40 or B30. This foundation tends to be darker. I got the bd50 and it was a tad too dark for my Filipino skin. Jan 8, 2014

A shopper asked: 1) How is this foundation's coverage compared with the YSL - Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation? (Is it too thick, cakey? or too Light? or medium-full? buildable?)
2) best for which skin type?
3) how would i go on choosing the color for my skin tone since there is not local counter near where I live. Meaning the only way is to order online.
(I am asian skin- have undertone of yellow in the middle, not too much yellow and not too little yellow, just in between with the yellow. I was matched with color of MAC in NC25 - NC30 depending on the season, in Estee Lauder I wear Dawn. Sometimes depending on the specialist who swatched me say i'm neutral, some say i'm warm, even one said i was cool.. I'm confused with which undertone, guess it may be the lighting) But i do wear those other shades and matched, so if someone can suggest me the shades that would be great! thanks-

Lauren L: 1) This foundation offers more coverage than Le Teint Touche Eclat. Though its not think in consistency or cakey. The coverage is medium, and buildable.
2) I would say dry as there is the Youth Liberator skincare embedded within the foundation, nourishing the skin.
3) for shades, if you have the Le Teint Touche Eclat, you're probably the same shade for this foundation too. In store, the colour selection is wider for this foundation, though I don't know why. I wear the shade BD10, when the only Beige Dore colour is BD50.

Customer Reviews

Youth Liberator Serum Foundation

Overall rating

amazingly worth it. It is great for both dry and oily skin. It is moisturizing but still very good for oily skin. Personally I have very oily skin with acne scars and this just makes my skin evenly smooth with four pumps. To sum it up: *It is medium to full coverage *Satin finish that looks like real hydrated skin *Covers large pores and smooths out scarring *Gives a healthy glow after a couple hours. (Must use setting spray or VERY light setting powder) Use primer and/or setting spray to really maximize this product.
