A shopper asked: I've just received the Opium powder I ordered and to me it does not smell the same as the perfume. Is the powder supposed to smell the same as the perfume scent? Or does it smell the same and I just don't notice it? Just curious. It's a very lovely scent. Also, is it a better option to just poke a few holes in the plastic than to use the sifter on top of the open powder? I don't want to waste it or have it accidentally spill out. Any thoughts on either question? Thank you! Jun 26, 2014

Mandy C: You are correct, the powder that is offered now does not smell like the powder they used to produce along with the original 'Opium' fragrance which has now been changed due to a lack of carnation and other ingredients. It's sad. I loved the old Opium powder, but this new stuff is ok, but not the same smell at all. The original was way better. As far as the holes in the plastic vs. the grate, I would just tear off the plastic covering and use the grate sifter since it was made for that and you get more usage out of the powder. Hope this helps. Aug 20, 2015

Loueita H: I think they smell very different. I only the powder and it smells heavenly to me. It is the only scent I use in powder. I save it for when I am just fed up with perfume not lasting. A little of the powder stays with me a full day, and is never overpowering. The perfume is just too heavy for my chemistry. Jul 19, 2014

Laura M asked: I love Opium Body Powder, however, I do not know what to do with the screen that comes with it. When I open the box, the powder is sealed in another box and then the screen and powder puff lie on top. I am sure I am supposed to sift it or something like that. I tried it once but ended up making a mess. Can someone please help? Jun 19, 2014

Louise P: Before removing the plastic seal, tap the jar to settle the powder. Take the plastic off and replace it with the screen on top of the powder bed. It keeps the powder from caking on the puff and enables "dusting" lightly with the powder.
I have been using Opium Body Powder for many years and I love it!
Enjoy!

DEBORAH H: I have used Opium Dusting Powder for quite a few years now & often wonder about the screen, but I do use mine because I think it gives you a finer dusting amount that you are putting on your body. Perhaps they meant to limit the amount of powder and thus be a savings. That's what I try to believe when I use it every day!! :) Jun 19, 2014

Karen A: Hi Laura
I leave the screen on top of the powder and place the puff on top of the screen. When I use the powder I gently rub the puff across the screen and this way you don't get too much of the powder and there is no waste. I love this powder and have been using it since 1986. Good luck!

JOHN C B: Unfortunately, because I always give OPIUM body power as a gift, I am unable to explain the reason for the screen. My best guess is that the screen is to remain in place so that the powder puff does not pick up too much powder making the powder last longer. Jun 19, 2014

JoAnne O: The screen is used to limit the amount of powder that goes on the powder puff but is cumbersome and doesn't really work. I usually remove the screen and just lightly dab the puff in the powder, then shake the excess off. I hope this helps. Jun 20, 2014

Barbara B: I've been using Opium for years. I always found the powder screen useless and toss it. I believe it is supposed to help in using less of the powder rather than waste the powder by loading the powder puff with too much product. Jun 22, 2014

Mary C: Simply place screen on top of powder, then powder puff on top of screen - this allows a proper amount of powder to be dispursed - and powder not fly everywhere.
Also helps to control powder when packing for travel.

Pamela B: The screen is just suppose to help sift the powder so too
much doesn't get on the puff. I threw it out. Too cumbersome. Hope this helps.

Jim F. asked: The Opium Powder packaging looks different (beige container as opposed to dark crimson container). I understand there was a change to formulation, and then a change back. My wife likes the "original." Can anyone give some insight? I don't want to get the wrong one...
Thanks!

Laura S: I have been using Opium Powder for 25 years or so. It is my favorite of 3 or 4 different scents that I use. I knew the packaging was changed, but I can't say that I ever noticed a difference in the powder. Your question peaked my interest however, so I found a gift sample of the older powder and compared the 2. My one compaint about the old powder was the color. It tended to discolor any light colored under garments. The new powder is not as dark and I have not noticed any discoloration. The older powder seems to be a bit more coarse than the new powder. I prefer this finer formula. I do not detect any difference in the scent nor in how long the scent lasts. I am happy with the "new" formula and would recommend it. Dec 16, 2013

Vickie I: I don't think you can get the original powder now, even on auction sites. However, the powder YSL sells now smells wonderful, and I have no problem with it. I have been wearing Opium since it was introduced. Great scent. Dec 16, 2013

JOHN C B: The Opium body powder I purchase is a gift to an older lady. As I have not opened any of the containers, I personally can't answer your question. I hope someone will be able to give you a better answer. I can say that it smells very good and is very hard to find in a store. Good luck. Dec 17, 2013

b p asked: My mother in law wants this product, but in searching I have found a "vintage" powder and what I guess is a newer powder...what is the difference? I noticed the price for the newer powder is about 1/3 of the price of the "vintage" Dec 18, 2012

A shopper asked: What is the color of this current Opium Bath Powder? Does anyone know if the older, "vintage" Opium bath powder was a rosy beige tone....somewhat like suntanned skin? Thank you very much. Jun 29, 2013

Barbara B: I've used Opium since it was first issued back in the early 70s. As far as I can remember, the body powder has always had a sllight tint of light pink. Jun 30, 2013

Robin S: It's white in color. I'm not familiar with the older "vintage" color. I will say, though, that I don't care for it. It's too sweet smelling for me. I use the cologne everyday but can't use this. Of course, that's just my opinion. Jun 29, 2013

I'm interested in purchasing the powder, or a gift set with powder included.
Please let me know the ounces and any other measurement I may need, to help me with my choice..

kathleen p: I believe the largest size is 5.2 oz. I have used iopium body powder for years, and my last purchase was for 2 because they stopped selling it for awhile and I never want to run out agan. Since it has just come back into stock since the beginning of the year, I don't know if they include it in gift sets, usually if they do it is a small container, so to make sure that I had a large one, I would purchase it seperately, the holidays are coming and gift sets should be out by now for you to see what is included in them. Mary K: I have purchased the round plastic container that weighs 5.2 oz. The first time I purchased Opium it was a small container in a gift package with other products. I loved the scent and I treat myself to the larger size
container on my birthday.

Debra K: My husband purchased the Satin Body Powder for me and I LOVE IT!! I got the biggest one they put out and it is 5.2 oz. I've been wearing Opium for years, he also bought me the large 6.6 oz. Body Moisturizer, which I wear with the Powder and the perfume. I hope this will help to answer you're question. Mrs. Debra Kamenar Oct 29, 2012

Patrick W: I do not know if the shopper has a specific question; but, my wife has used the powder for 20 or so years, and has asked for it on a regular basis. She has skin problems, and the powder does not iritate or cause any skin problems. As a husband, I can say that the aromatic qualities are rather inticing Jun 27, 2012

This is the only scent I've worn since discovering it 30 years ago. It smells the same out of the container as is does on my skin. Whenever I wear it, someone always comments on how wonderful it smells. The guys like it too.

Scented powder seems to be a vanishing luxury, so few companies make it anymore. I have loved Opium for years, it is the sexy scent I wear when I want to feel powerful. This powder is extraordinary, I enjoy using it so much and it s so perfect for when you want an all over scent but don't want to use a cream. I dust my bed linens with it because the fragrance is so divine and I honestly just can't get enough of it. Opium is BEAUTIFUL and this fine powder will help that glorious scent last longer.
