What it is

The opulent decadence of the Eau de Parfum captures the overtly sensual spirit of the original parfum designed by Yves Saint Laurent, only in a lighter spray form. Striking notes of mandarin and bergamot are made mystical with middle notes myrrh and jasmine. A final accord of deep amber laced with Opoponaux imbues the scent with its celebrated rapture. In a chic Chinoiserie-inspired flacon.

Notes: Vanilla Absolute, Carnation Accord, Jasmine Absolute, Mandarin Accord

Ratings & Reviews
Opium Eau De Parfum Spray is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Opium turns heads everywhere I go! I have been wearing Opium ever since I got my first job in an upscale department store when I was 17 years old. For the first few years, I also tried two other designer fragrances, but I never got the compliments from both men and women when I wore them that I got every time that I wore Opium. To this day, every single time I wear Opium both friends and strangers alike stop me just to say, "Wow, you smell really good!" or "I love that perfume you're wearing!" And I'm happy to say that my husband is my/Opium's biggest fan! He finds this fragrance just as intoxicating as I do. He loves to bury his face in the curve of my neck and inhale deeply and tell me how good I smell! Please don't ever stop making the original formula of Opium. It is the only perfume I will ever wear!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the formula I have purchased for over 25 years Very disappointed. I have never been allergic to opium until now. This burned my skin for hours. Does not smell the same nor did I get that special one of kind smell that I get from my old bottle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What did you do to Opium!? This version smells downright masculine to me, the old one has that somewhat sour and spicy nuance (carnation) with it and civet and coconut and bay leaf, where are they!!? I kept being optimistic that you still respect the classic by still producing it. I get it. But following the IFRA because of allergic prescriptions? Just don't sell Opium to sick people, that simple. You ruined everything even Rive Gauche! Don't get me wrong, I'll still buy it because it is somewhat Opium but I'm really disappointed, bring her back. She doesn't even last long :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic! My wife has been using Opium for probably 40 years - and it continues to stun me. She loves this latest version. It has been "her essence" for as long as I've known her. Great purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from please always make this! I've worn Opium scent since 1980. Every time I try another, people say 'it isn't YOU'. Funny how important these things become. I love this & have never tired of it. It's light, delicious & classic. Will always be my signature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monogram plus Classic fragrance together. This is simply beautiful and a nice consistant scent. The Monogram makes it a classic and as a gift nearly a Necessity ! Brides come to mind. Of course for the one you know likes the scent.

Several months ago a "new" Opium was introduced and my daughter took me to the store to preview it. I did not care for it at all. It was not a problem at that time, because I had an ample supply. Last week I purchased a new bottle and noticed a difference at once. Do you think that they combined the two fragrances tocut their losses?

The formula is slightly different as they cannot use ambergris in the scents they sell in the USA so you can thank the EPA. I've been wearing Opium since 1978 and I noticed the change, but it's still the only thing I will ever wear--I've worn it my whole life. Dec 01, 2013

I adorre Opium Perfume and Have bought it for many years and have contstantly had wonderful comments on it and many men have inquired as to what it was so they can purchase for their wives ( True Story) However - since the New Bottle has come 0ut I think there is definitely a change in the fragrance - Yes it is still stunning - but I think not quite the same as it was before - What has been changed? I have used this perfume for as long as I can remember and because I love it so much My 42 yr old daughter wont buy it for herself as she considers it "Mums Perfume" so I truely have noticed a suttle change in aroma - Right Or Wrong??

Sharon is correct, it is different than it used to be, I noticed it immediately as does anyone with a perfurmer's nose like Sharon and myself. However, the vast majority of users don't notice the difference.

TO ALL THOSE NOTICING A DIFFERENCE IN THE NEWER OPIUM: America is one of the countries that passed a law forbiding the import of Ambergris or products containing Ambergris. Ambergris is a substance taken from whales. It is what has given many perfumes a more enhanced and luxurious scent for many years. Chanel has also gone through reformulations on their scents imported to the U.S. There are some countries that don't abide by these regulations, but you would need to research this on your own. The bottom line is: Please do not blame YSL, for they are just abiding by the law. I will still use Opium - even the reformulated scent is wonderful to me.

Marcie H: I've been hooked on Opium for over 20 years, my ex-husband was the first to buy it for me. I fell in love with it. Sadly the marriage didn't last.....but the Opium lasted longer...lol! It's just amazing! People are always complimenting me on my beautiful smell and I just adore that kind of attention. Opium will be with me forever. Now my daughter is hooked it too. It's just the best smell available, that's all there is to it. I can tell it from any other smell. I love love love Opium. THE END!
