Julie H: Depends on your skin tone. If gray clothes normally make you look good, then ashy black will look good on you. Black is classic, but harsh. If you are going to use thin lines, then black is ok. Otherwise, I think ashy black will be a nice, sophisticated option. Dec 24, 2012

Diana R: I find that black is becoming a little too harsh so I've been leaning toward dark grays. I haven't seen the ashy black but i'd imagine it's not so black. Sooo I guess I'm saying ashy black. Dec 24, 2012

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (2) No (0)
Michele B: A very thin, angled brush - MAC’s 208 works very well...because of the thinner brush, it allows for both thin and thicker lines. Apr 1, 2014

A shopper asked: I have super oily eyelids. And no matter what eyeliner that I have tried will transfer to the top of my lids. I have tried one which is the Maybelline eye studio gel liner. Do u think this ysl gel liner will transfer? May 1, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
MA A: I have always had very oily skin. Not only did the color not transfer, it stayed on &
at the end of the day looked as it did when I applied it.
I apply a light powder or BE well rested eye brightener with an angled brush all around my eye and especially on my lower eye lid. Although I use powder shadow this helps to set it & any liner.
Am unable to speak to applying it to bare skin as I didn't.

Bonnie H: This is the best gel eyeliner that I have tried. And I have tried many. This one doesn't transfer on me, but everyone is different. Give it a try, I think u will like it. I have the black burgundy color which is great with hazel colored eyes, without being as harsh colored as black. Good luck! May 1, 2014

Leslie W: I haven't experienced that problem with the ysl eyeliner. I use a primer and a tinted moisturizer by Laura mercier first then powder then put the eyeliner on. Smudge it a little with eye shadow and it should stay all day May 1, 2014

Janet W: I am sorry I cannot answer that. I got this just for the color. I did not like the color so I sent it back. I cannot tell you how well it wore although I do love all ysl products I use! Sorry I wasn't much help. May 1, 2014

Lynne D: I wouldn't call my eyelids "super oily" but I've always had trouble keeping eyeliner in place and I have tried many. This product has worked well for me. Living in Denver, it does tend to dry out within a year. May 1, 2014

A shopper asked: Is it safe for eyelash extensions? Nov 7, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
TERRY H: This is a very good eyeliner that I use almost everyday. It is okay on my eyes and I wear contact lens which are normally very sensitive. I'm sure as long as you use a good eye makeup remover you should have no problem removing it after wearing it. I like YSL's eye make up remover. It does a great job also. Nov 29, 2013

Marcia G: I don't have, nor have I ever had, eyelash extensions; however, this is a great product. I didn't get my brush from YSL, but if you have the right brush, it goes on right next to your eyelashes. I love it!! Nov 7, 2013

A shopper asked: Hi - I'm tempted to try this product, but concerned about the the pot drying out too quickly. This has been a big problem with other brands that I've purchased. Wondering if YSL would be different.? I have smaller dark brown eyes. Best, Nancy Aug 14, 2012

gina c: this is my 3rd pot. none of them ever dried up and i use them daily until they are empty. the gel remains smooth and soft unlike my experience with bobbi brown's gel eyeliners which are dry even when brand new. i use this every day since i discovered it in the spring of 2012 and i will never switch. it's awesome!! Agnieszka B: Hi Nancy! I've been using YSL eyeliner for about two months now and I haven't noticed the gel to get dry at all! It's still soft, silky and goes on smooth. It's really worth the money. Just to be sure - Close the lid after each use. I don't recommend leaving any makeup product open for that matter. Enjoy! Anies Aug 14, 2012

Susanne B: I bought the black eyeliner in May, and mine has not dried out yet. I keep it tightly closed when not in use, and I like it a lot. I wear it most days (even though I'm retired and not going to work) and find it wears well. You can make a very fine line if you use the right brush. Aug 14, 2012

Debra B: I have found that the product has remained soft and creamy in the pot, even though it dries quickly (and is smudge-proof) once applied. I do make sure to keep the lid screwed on tightly - I'm sure you would too - and I haven't had a problem. Aug 14, 2012

Alysha S: Hi, thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately I wasn't able to buy it from the US YSL website and I can't find it on the UK one. I am able to get it shipped to the UK via Nordstrom however it included £15 shipping which is a bit out of my budget. It is only showing the eyeliner in the 07 Gold colour on the John Lewis website but I will look in store when I get the chance! Fingers crossed! Jan 9, 2015

A shopper asked: Is it good? May 22, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rassmita S: This is the best cream eye liner I ever purchased! I was looking for an eye liner that wouldn't look dramatic like liquid liners do.
This is the one! Easy to glide on the eye, doesn't smudge and is perfect black! Guess what? I purchased this in 2012, I still have it and it hasn't dried up!
I have black one, and I use a Mac pro brush to apply it. It comes out as flawless!
it comes off very easily with any make up remover or even face wash.
I had done a lot of research before buying this product,as I am very particular about having the best products for my face.
This Eyeliner is a WINNER is my opinion!

Courtenay A: The colors are beautiful! The black lasts well with me, and I have oilier lids. However, the more metallic colors (however LOVELY) tend to disappear a bit over the day. If you prime with powder it helps! May 22, 2014

A shopper asked: could you use the eyeliner on your eyelids as a base? Oct 1, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
carol g: I think you probably could but you would have to use it very sparingly. When I use it as a liner, I blend it near the base of the lashes as if I had used a soft pencil. I can definitely see it as an accent color but I don't know about as a base. All you can do is try it. It certainly can't hurt. It's meant for your eyelids anyway ;-) Oct 1, 2012

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (1)
Nancy C: I have not tried. I only do the top eyelid in a "winged" style and I think this eyeliner is great! I like the Marilyn retro look! You should try it with red lips. I must add. I'm an eyeliner junkie. And have bought all the high end brands and this one is one of the best! Mar 10, 2012

Yvette K: Hi
I found this eyeliner to be very 'wet'. It transfer-ed very quickly when I used it to line my upper lash line and I sent it back. I would advise against the inner eyelid as it would get extremely messy. Hope this helps.

Barb G: Thank you -good to know about the consistency of the eyeliner. Mar 12, 2012
Larissa I: I personally never use the cream eyeliners on the inner eyelind, only the pencil ones. However, I believe it can be used on the innder eyelid though the applicator for it has to be very thin and preferably bended. Mar 12, 2012
Reply to Larissa Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Barb G: Thank you. I find the pencil doesn't apply well or adhere for long. Guess I haven't tried the right brand. I do like a brand that has the applicator you describe but it does come with a pot of cream liner.(which always dries out eventually. I think I will give pencils another try as lining the inner eyelid seems to be flattering for my eye shape and color. Mar 12, 2012
Larissa I: Right, I wish I could recommend more but I am not a professional makeup artist so I won't attempt. For reference, I use Chanel eyeliner pencil in Coffee Bean shade (other Chanel shades do not work for me) and apply it closer to the lash line (on the lower eyelid) as opposed to inner eyelid. I also make sure to use mascara on my lower lashes so that eyeliner doesn't look goth:) Mar 12, 2012
Yvonne E: I actually do not do that - at least not since college. Based on the formula, you can lightly line the inner eye. Mar 10, 2012

Barb G: Thank you, Yvonne. I do better with inner lining not on top due to my eyelid and eye shape/color. Mar 12, 2012
A shopper asked: Could someone please better explain in details the colors: "Ashy Black" (is this like a charcoal grey?) & "Bronze Black" (it looks like a khaki color in the picture). Thanks! May 31, 2013

Monique H: Bonjour! Ashy Black is like very dark black grey chimney soot color, and I love it! It imakes tbe perfect smokey eye with just the right mix of black and grey.

Bronze Black is a dark copper color with a warm undertone and it really makes my dark brown eyes pop! I wear it everyday to have a more defined eye.

Marilee L: The ashy black is a deep grey and not as harsh as black can sometimes be depending upon skin tone and eye color. The bronze black picks up on hazel or green coloring in the eyes. It looks a little darker than the swatch. Hope this helps. May 31, 2013

Marcia G: I have the bronze black which I ordered b/c I like black/brown. It's s little more subtle than straight black. I had the ashy black first & sent it back b/c it was too stark for me. May 31, 2013

Overall rating

Absolutely wonderful. My eyes are dark green and the Noir Bronze shade matched my eyes completely. Everywhere I go people comment on how my eyes look. Thank you YSL.

the best cream eyeliner i've ever used! i have been using bobbi brown's cream eyeliner for years and, while i thought it was acceptable, now that i found YSL's cream eyeliner i will never go back. unlike bobbi brown's, ysl is creamy! it doesn't dry out and get hard like bb. it doesn't flake off like dried paint as the day goes on and it has yet to run even after sitting in the sun with sunglasses on for hours. i am sooooo happy i decided to try this product. it is exceptionally great!
