I use it to clean my face, though I don't use it every day as I use Retinoids so my skin is sensitive. I don't think there is a need to cleanse, as this really leaves skin feeling clean and polished. It is not as intense as a peel, but more of a beautifully scrubbing cleanser that could be used in between a peel or mask. Hope that helps!

This is used on clean dry skin. It is so unique because there are no abrasive particles yet it provides a mild exfoliating action and it leaves my sensitive skin refreshed, soft and clear. I use it in place of a peel since it has a cumulative effect over time - better than a harsh peel.

This is a great exfoliator. You apply it to dry face, wait until it becomes liquidy & then massage your face in a circular motion gently to rub away dead skin cells. Then you wash it off.

Yes. I apply the exfoliator to my face using my fingertips. After a couple minutes you will feel the exfoliator change in consistency which means it's done. I then use cotton pads and a facial cleaner to wipe the exfoliator off. I then clean my face and apply a toner and moisturizer.

Yes, you just smooth it on dry skin, then rub in circles (it turns more liquid) in all over the face. Then splash on some cold water and it makes a lather- I then just smooth that around and rinse. Very easy!

It is a Great product! It is applied to dry skin and, as you massage it around, it liquidates. You rinse it with water afterwords. It works very well, it is very gentle and it smells great.

No, apply exfoliator on wet skin and massage it in circles so you remove the dead skin layers. It works very well! Enjoy the experience, the skin is then nice and soft.

Because I have very sensitive, normal/combination skin with the tendency to get red easily I am careful with the exfoliators. In the past I tried several brands of exfoliators from and was disappointed with the results.
However, after a close friend of mine convinced me to try the YSL product I became to believe that with the right exfoliator nothing is impossible.
The YSL Top Secret Natural Action Exfoliator is an amazing product that does miracles. No wonder, it is called "Top Secret." On the market there is a Japanese brand of exclusive gold-based beauty products that offers similar exfoliator, but the price that company charges for their exfoliator is x3 times as much when compared to YSL.
The YSL exfoliator is gentle, has delicate scent and is perfect for very sensitive skin (like mine). In my case, this product works very well even near the eye area (though the instruction suggests omitting that specific place).
I use the YSL exfoliator depending on my needs - once or twice a week - either in the morning after washing off my night cream, or in the evening - after completely removing the make-up. In either case - the exfoliator works MIRACLES, making my face looks absolutely stunning.
However, I do not use the exfoliator to remove the make-up, or more often than twice a week. One day, I may decide to do so, but for now, I am very happy with the outcome and how this absolutely amazing product works for me, hence I will continue my current routine.

It's definitely not a cleanser and does not foam up. I would recommend using as directed, after cleansing, 2-3 times a week. It is very gentle, and I'm sure people use more often, but I'd stick to using it as an exfoliator.
