Alycon P: I thought it was the original formula, but found out otherwise. A Nordstrom employee explained that the International Fragrance Board banned certain ingredients several years ago, and that's why the old fragrance cannot return. Money should be no object when you want the best for yourself. I've been wearing Opium Eau De Toilette spray now for 20 plus years. I'm glad they finally came back with the dusting powder. I use the shower gel and body lotion and moisturer too.
I love it all. I'm extremely happy with Yvess Saint Laurence products. I just love spoiling myself with them.

You pay for what you get... Opium isn't cheap It is however worth every penny you pay for it :) Beware if you find it cheaper it probably is not the real thing :( Just like designer purses they Counterfeit perfumes

I've tried to get the original scent everywhere but nothing smells like the Opium I got 5 years ago.... got several from Yves Saint Laurent and they are not the same. Used to have a soft sexy spicy scent.....the only thing that still has the scent is bath gel.....and body cream-lotion... the perfume and toilette spray has something missing... whatever they stopped using or changed totally ruined the original scent...... sorry...

Good question. I have no idea if they have changed it back or not. Haven't ordered in a while, but need to now. I know I just hate the new bottle. I like the old one much much better. I have been using opium for years and years. Each time I change , I go right back to opium.

The bottle I ordered in Aug/12 is the poor substitute for the original which I was not aware had changed until I received it. I do not know if the formula has been revised yet --but I hope they change it back because I'm not buying it again until they do.

After loving this fragrance for more than 25 years, ordering directly from Yves Saint Laurent always ensures I receive the "original"....I wouldn't have it any other way!

I have used this for 20+ years as well and have gotten bottles that do not smell like the original at all, even w/the old packaging. Very disappointing. I'm very leary of buying it online any more because of this and Opium is not easy to find at any retail outlet.

Brenda: Opium EDT has, unfortunately, been reformulated, and I share your disappointment. Recently I inquired of YSL whether the company might consider re-introducing the original formula alongside the new one, but was told that no such plan is being considered. I even went so far as to inquire of a major department store's fragrance counter staff whether they could tell me what fragrance other disgruntled Opium users have been purchasing as an alternative to Opium, but even they did not realize that Opium had been changed. Like you, I no longer receive compliments, and, sad to say, I will be moving on to another fragrance for the first time in two decades.

I have not noticed a difference, however if you have ask youself these questions. 1) have you gone on a new medicine or has the dosage changed.

I used to wear the perfume but now wear the Eau de Toilette along with the shower gel, or sometimes the body cream. (I used to use the soap as well, and wish YSL would re-introduce it!). I have not noticed a change in the fragrance at all. I do not like the Belle d'Opium. Perhaps you bought that by mistake? I think layering the fragrance works really well and keeps the scent alive all day.

It took me a fair while but i finally figure out that the 'stopper' is like a cork and simply pops out, but my one was crooked (somehow) ....like when you put the lid back on a jar crooked and it can get stuck if you screw it down too hard..... so I got the back of my Mouse Pad (yes, thats right my Mouse Pad) and put that on the stopper and twisted one way while i twisted the bottle the other way...firmly, but gently.
The bottle actually does not have to come out of the plastic hard cover ...but I did discover it kind of pushes upward from the outer bottom corners so that the bottle 'can' be removed from the plastic case IF you want it out...but I really had to play around with it to get there.
